One of our lovely reader shomita send Lung Cancer article through email. First she want to tell us about Lung Cancer definition "Lung cancer is a disease that consists of uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung. This growth may lead to metastasis, which is the invasion of adjacent tissue and infiltration beyond the lungs." Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in Europe, and throughout the world. It accounts for 20% of cancer deaths (28% men and 10% in women). In women, breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer mortality (18%), but in some countries (eg Great Britain) female deaths from lung cancer now exceeds deaths from breast cancer.
There are two main types of lung cancer: the non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell lung cancer (SCLC). The survival with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the most common type of lung cancer is better than a mikrokytariko lung cancer (SCLC), which tends to spread more rapidly.
Survival rates for lung cancer is worse than any other common cancers.
The survival rate over five years in Great Britain, only 5% for lung cancer.
Today in Finland, 12% of patients survive 5 years after diagnosis of lung cancer, compared with 4% survive 20 years ago.
